Giving Back Across Maine: 1% Back Grant Highlights

Portside’s 1% Back to Maine initiative is proud to highlight the many incredible organizations receiving funding this year. These grants support projects that fight food insecurity, create safe spaces for youth, and build stronger communities across Maine.

Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident by combining physical activity with lessons that build life skills and self-esteem. Using fun, experience-based curricula, the program helps encourage girls to support one another. With a $10,000 grant from 1% Back, Girls on the Run Maine can continue expanding access to programs across the state, giving more girls the tools they need to succeed on and off the track. Through running, mentorship, and teamwork, they are shaping a generation of confident, resilient young leaders. Explore more about their mission at https://www.girlsontherunmaine.org/

OUT Maine is dedicated to building welcoming and affirming communities where LGBTQ+ youth across the state feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Their work supports families, empowers youth to live as their most authentic selves, and trains professionals to better serve queer youth in their schools and communities. With $10,000 in funding, OUT Maine is expanding its Local Game Night project, which creates safe, inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ youth and their families to gather, connect, and build meaningful relationships. These game nights provide not just fun and belonging, but also vital opportunities for emotional growth, resilience, and community connection. Portside is honored to support these organizations and the vital work they do to strengthen Maine communities. Collectively, 1% Back has donated $1.2 million since inception. When you support 1% Back, you’re helping neighbors across the state access food, housing, education, and more. Together, we are building a stronger Maine for all.
